Often improvement comes slowly because leadership is distracted by things; like running the business! This is a chance to accelerate progress by dedicating the right people for an intense and focused process improvement event.
A fantastic method for improvement is a KAIZEN EVENT (also known as a GEMBA). This is a three or five day event where a cross-functional group of people come together focused on a specific task. During this time the people in the Gemba have no other function within the company than that of the Gemba Event.
Participants of Kaizen Team
Process Operators, those in supportive functions to the process, Supervision, and sometimes Customers and Suppliers.
Structure
Day 1 - Leadership Team set task. Kaizen team assess task, gather data, regroup and discuss findings and formulate and test suggested improvements.
Day 2 - Gemba-Kaizen Team implement improvements.
Day 3 - Kaizen Team fixes unforeseen issues and problems. Report out to Leadership Team and then celebrate improvements!
